American Brown Ale

Beer Style: Brown Ale

Recipe Type: partial mash

Directions

This was my second batch of brew and it turned out to be quite good. I'm going to start a new one and add a few things to it so well see how it comes out/try to perfect it. Its got a nice dark, red and brown color to it.

Ingredients:

* PARTIAL MASH/GRAINS:
* 1-1/2 lbs. Domestic 2-Row
* 1/2 lbs. English Brown
* 1/4 lbs. 50-60L Crystal
* 1/8 lbs. Chocolate
* 1/2 lbs. Cara-Pils
* EXTRACT:
* 6 lbs. Malt Extract
* HOPS:
* 1 oz. Northern Brewer (Bittering) @60min
* 1 oz. Willamette (Aroma) @15min
* YEAST:
* Safale US-05

Primary Ferment: 8
Secondary Ferment: 10-14

Procedure:

Boil 2.5-3 gal H2O at 155 for 45 min. Turn off heat. Place grain bag into pot (w/o touching the bottom of the pot) and let sit for 45 min. Bring to boil again and turn off heat. Slowly add malt extract, stir constantly. Bring to steady boil again and add N. Brewer hops (This is the start of your 60 min boil). At 15 min till the end, add in the Willamette.

After wort is cooled in ice/water for 45 min, add 2-3 gal cool-room temp H2O to your primary fermenter and pour in 1/3 of wort. Pitch yeast and then pour the rest of the wort into the fermenter.
